I have been back for their AYCE menu and it was terrible. The rolls were not good, tiny, tons of rice. They removed a lot of things from the AYCE menu. Started going to other places in town. I also learned they now do not serve AYCE after my last visit. Their sushi is not bad, but you can get better elsewhere in town.

Well...it takes a lot for me to give a 1 or 2 star review and tonight's dinner pretty much did it. I guess the importance of good service and a pleasant/clean environment is no longer valued. Now I fully understand that it's a Friday night and we arrived at 2000 for dinner. Some would say that is a late meal and I can understand a little bit of aggravation or untidiness later in the evening, but tonight was an extreme example. The sushi we had tonight was good. We had a Dragon Roll, Tuna and Garlic Roll, The Air Force Tower Roll and a Volcano Roll. We also each had the Cucumber salad. As for just the food this would be a solid 4-Star review. But fortunately it was not the food that killed tonight's experience. Tonight took a dive at the hands of the wait staff. Which if you read other reviews, you will also find that it's been an ongoing theme. I am usually one to give a little more leeway to the staff, especially on a busy night. Tonight I gave as much as I could, and they just keep digging the hole deeper. From not having table settings to eat with until 5 minutes after the salads came out...to the overall lack of a true "give-a-shit" gland. The floor was a complete wreck, there was so much trash spread around and never an attempt by any of the staff to clean it up. Not a single person though to grab a broom and do a quick sweep. They were all too worried about getting out the door. The section of the bar next to me had what appeared to be half of a rolls worth of rice and seaweed on the floor. The bathroom...well let's just say I've seen cleaner in third world countries. Tonight we made the decision, after having come here 5-6 times in the past that we will be going to another establishment for the foreseeable future for our sushi.

Went visting USAF and had a wonderful dinner at Sushi Rakkyo. The waitress served us was super friendly! Food was tasty, and LOVE LOVE LOVE the japanese beer.

I love their "all you can eat" sushi!!!!

This five star rating is based on VALUE. I'm not a connoisseur so I have a hard time telling quality of sushi., From what I hear, this is decent. BUT theire lunch special, all you can eat, for $15 can't be beat here in town. And, you can get entree items besides suchi and they're AWESOME. I went on a busy saturday with five people and we served EXCELLENT service. We had six different people help clear the table and fill waters. They really have a great team work going. SO nice. And, I actually order Nigari there. The fish tasted great. I usually am intimidated by huge chunks of raw fish; not here.

Smelled good walking in. Hostess was super rude. Wanted to order off of the lunch menu (it was 1:30) and told we had to order off if the dinner menu where it was $29.95 per person! No way! We ended up walking out. Plenty of other places that I can spend my money and not be treated like crap.

I rarely give one-star reviews, but I have to be honest here. According to my experience, this place stinks! We walked in to a fairly dead restaurant (we came at an odd time of day, so it didn't seem alarming that it was slow) and stood around by the front door for a good 5-10 minutes without being greeted. We eventually sat ourselves and had no problem with the service after that. I ordered a couple of different rolls, all with tuna of some sort in them, and after eating a bite of one of each, I had to send them back. The fish tasted fishy (even my spicy tuna which I thought to be quite an accomplishment) and the rice...oh, that rice... it was just awful. It was complete mush and had no real consistency. In fact, it kept getting stuck to the tops of my teeth! It may have been just a bad batch, but c'mon! These sushi chefs can tell when the rice is good vs. when it isn't, even without tasting it -- it has a completely different consistency altogether! But, instead of throwing it out and starting over (or perhaps hiring someone who actually knows how to cook rice) they went ahead and served it anyways! Rice is not that expensive! I let the waitress know of my concerns and of my distaste and she immediately took them off of our bill without me having to ask. It seems that other Yelpers in the Springs like this place, and maybe we just came on a bad day, but, in the restaurant business you can never tell when someone will come in and try you out for the first time and first impressions are everything. Good restaurants will always focus on consistency and ensure that they are putting out good food every day. We definitely won't be coming back. :(

The all you can eat sushi deal for $24.99 is fantastic! The rolls were good quality, lots of variety and the appetizers and sashimi is also included in this deal

If I could give this 0 stars I would. I have eaten here before, but every time the service has been less than hospitable. There are a lot of rules. They advertise a $7.95 lunch all you can eat that ends at 2. So don't come in at 1:30 because they won't serve you the all you can eat, they will charge you for anything left on your plate at 2 and act like you should know the rules. It's sort if like a like a game if how much you can order and eat before the clock runs out. Not a very relaxing environment. Today, Sunday, we came in at 1:25 pm for lunch. I inquired if they offered the all you can eat and the reply was yes, dinner menu. Not knowing what that meant we sat down and started reviewing the menu: it was $25pp all you can eat. $50++ which is way more money than we were looking to spend for lunch. The food is just ok compared to Zen Sushi, AI and especially Hapa Sushi in Denver. There are businesses that want you as a customer and treat you well...go there!

It is ok. I will not come back, but that is because there are much better sushi options in town. The positives - staff is VERY attentive and helpful - food comes out very fast - beautiful views The negative - the food just isn't all that good. Everything tasted fake, and flavorless. Wasabi had no kick and the only thing I could taste was rice. Maybe they are having an off night but I'll go somewhere else in the future.

The food was delicious. We ordered two all you can eat meals. I think it's a good deal, you can order anything of the dinner menu. The sushi was very very good, especially here in Colorado. Our waitress needed to work on her people skills. She was pretty rude and condescending, but at least the food was good, and she was prompt bringing it out. Will definitely visit again. Based on the food, I'd give them 5 stars, but the waitress really took away from our experience.

Great staff, good sushi. If you like seaweed hand rolls are definitely the way to go. It's like a ice cream cone of seaweed with delicious fish and rice inside. Just like I like my ice cream. Fastest all you can eat sushi service I have ever had.

I love this restaurant. One wouldn't expect to find high-quality sushi in Colorado Springs, but Sushi Rakkyo his the nail on the head. My last three experiences have been remarkably consistent and quite enjoyable. The atmosphere has a high-end/night-on-the-town feel--minus the wait time and downtown traffic. Sushi is made to order using fresh, quality ingredients. You MUST do the all-you-can-eat special. It's the best deal for sushi ANYWHERE! My favorites: Airforce Tower Roll, sushi pizza, rainbow roll, Marilyn Mon Roll, BBQ beef roll (seared beef--it's amazing), mango salmon roll, Colorado roll and caterpillar roll. As with any all-you-can-eat sushi joint, you will be charged for any leftovers. Choose wisely; I notoriously order twice as much as I can eat.

ATMOSPHERE: This was my first time here and the restaurant was full of people, so I had high expectations as far as the quality of food. SERVICE: The service wasn't great. Since it was so busy, the hostess was almost hostile/frustrated in explaining how the menu worked eventhough it was our first time. The sushi came out fast, but the waiter took his time in picking up and putting in our orders. PRICE: We had a party of 9 and we all decided to do an all you can eat for 25$, not bad considering they had a lot of hot items and appetizers too. The AYCE menu was limited to the simple roles instead of including their special roles. The catch was that you could order the special rolls for an additional 2.50$ each, but that starts to get a little pricey when you would like to try everything not on the AYCE. FOOD: The sushi was good, not anything special that I would go back to. The fish to rice ratio was average. I felt like some of the rolls were fillers or for people that don't really know what Japanese food is. GO AGAIN?: If I was invited out, sure; however, I'm still searching different places in Colorado Springs to find the best.

This place has "okay" sushi for the Springs, I will give credit where it is due. I did not like the staff very much....they all seemed a bit "slow". I would only return to this place if I didnt have the gas money to get to Denver... I dont want to turn this into a rant soooooo ***If you want REAL sushi and a GREAT experience you MUST try HAPA in Denver-across from Cherry Creek mall. Its the best I've tasted in Colorado so far!!!

I crave sushi ALL THE TIME. Literally, right when I got home from eating about 45 lbs of sushi as a part of Sushi Rakkyo's lunch special, I just wanted more. And what's great is that, for only $15 for all-you-can eat at lunchtime, it's not too hard on my wallet for me to satisfy this craving often. My husband, who isn't even a big sushi guy, loves it because he can eat plate after plate of their delicious entree meats as well. I even threw a salad into the mix halfway through so that I could feel a bit better about myself. On Saturday, it was crowded, but not so much that we had to wait to be seated. And we rarely waited for food to arrive on our table. There were waiters running around the restaurant constantly, delivering sushi fresh from the sushi bar as soon as the chef prepared it. The spicy crunch rolls were the best out of what I ordered, in my opinion. I would have ordered everything to try it all, but had to be careful: if you leave food on your plate, you are charged extra for it!

I'm on the quest for the best sushi in the CS area and this is my first stop. Overall, I thought the service was absolutely top notch and the nice girls that greet me are always sincere and genuine so 5 stars for that definitely. I usually plop my butt down at the sushi bar so I can watch whatever NFL highlights are up on the screen and hearing the sushi guys speak amongst themselves is a secret joy of mine. If you're gonna order rolls here, then don't. My spicy tuna roll (which is my litmus test) fell apart when I picked it up and the rice was a little too vinegary and wet. It may have been a bad batch that kind of mushed up my roll but it literally left a sour taste in my mouth. I will have to give them a lot of credit for the cut of sashimi pieces that almost made me forget about the rolls. There's something about white tuna that just makes everything all better in the world. And they're not skimpy with the pieces either! The ambiance made the place feel like a trendy spot for young couples and would probably be awesome for a date night. The staff is friendly, the plate presentations are beautiful and my sushi always comes out lightening quick. I wish this place wasn't so awesome 'cause it makes it harder to stray away.

Really enjoyed our meal. Service was good, decor is pleasantly casual. The view is delightful, too. Food was tasty and fast-- salmon nigiri was beautifully presented, served at a pleasing temperature and the fish was flawless. Rolls were generously proportioned and well-made. This is a place within a few miles of our home, and we hope to be regulars.

Food is good but service is absolutely terrible. This waitress forgot most of our orders from our order sheet they give you. I asked for wasabi twice but the waitress kept forgetting. I had to ask a different waiter. This restaurant is severely understaffed. It was ridiculous orders were being forgotten or it took a very long time to get our order.

Went for carry out. Impeccably rude staff. She said it would take 20 minutes; it took 40. Was not offered any water or beverage during the nearly one hour wait. Said she was too busy to give me a bag, chopsticks, soy sauce, etc. for my carry out order. Get home. Missing 2 items. Call to complain and all calls get forwarded directly to voice mail. I vow to never return.

My husband and I try not to eat at the same place more than once. It says a lot that we have eaten here four times! After eating at 5 sushi places here in town, I think this is as good as it gets in the Springs. And it is really good! Depends on how hungry we are on what we get, there is a choice of ordering a la carte or the $25 dinner buffet. EVERYTHING is good. From the soups to the sashimi. My favorite is the Air Force Ahi Tower. The portions are decently sized, which is great to be able to try different rolls. The only thing negative, is some of the rolls are filled with too much rice. The service is great for the most part. We went once at 4:30, right when they opened and there were 5 tables filled right away with us being the first ones there. There was only one server/host for an hour and he was very overwhelmed. He didn't take our orders till 20 minutes later. That was the only time. The rest of the other 3 times we have been there, the service has been great no matter how busy they got. The ambiance and decor is trendy with clean lines. The place is clean and great for date nights. Plate presentation is really pretty too. Definitely will be back again!

Food was not impressive at all and came out very slowly even though the restaurant wasn't too busy.

Sushi somewhat close to the office. All-you-can-eat lunch option may limit expense, but the options are not as good as the normal menu. The fish was cut thin so you mostly fill up on rice, but the fish was also fresh and well prepared. Tea is above average. Service is good. And the feel of the place is quite nice. I will have to go for dinner, choose some better menu options, get a better feel overall and update this with more details.

Some of the reviews I've seen complain about the customer service, but I've got to disagree. We even brought our 11-month-old, and they were very accommodating and friendly. The food was AMAZING. We got the All You Can Eat, and tried so many wonderful rolls, soups, and salads. My favorite had to be the Viagra Tempura Roll. The name sort of put me off, but it was delicious. We'll definitely be going back.

Delicious food, given the option go all you can eat. Portions are slim off the regular menu, fyi no sashimi on the all you can eat. The happy hour 2 for 1 large Sapporo makes it all good ;)

What a deal for unlimited sushi! It doesn't take long to break even on the deal here, particularly at lunch. It also is set apart by preparing (or so it seems) each roll in the kitchen per order rather than picking sushi out from a slimy sushi bar. I also tried the yaki soba, which was like really tasty ramen. I'm no sushi expert but this place is pretty good even if just for the good sushi deal.

I've been a sushi fan for over 30 years and Sushi Rakkyo stands out as one of the best! I've been there twice so far--once for lunch and once for dinner--and I will definitely go again. This is one of the few all-you-can-eat sushi places in Colorado Springs.Their AYCE lunch is only $14.95 and the dinner is just $23.95. More importantly, their food is delicious! My sushi was perfect: the rice had great flavor (which is crucial! "Sushi" refers to the rice, not the fish) and the fish was very fresh and skillfully cut. The wait staff is friendly, knowledgeable and quick. My friend ordered tempura and she loved it! Our miso soup was very good too. My only disappointment was the green tea: It had an odd flavor and neither of us finished ours. No biggie; I went there for the sushi, not the tea. If you want great sushi at a great price, then go to Sushi Rakkyo!

I'd never been to an all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant before, but I'm a sucker for a coupon. My wife and I went after receiving a coupon in one of those mass mailer dealyos. It amounted to about a buck off per person at lunch time, but hey we saved $2 :) While the sushi was not the most incredible ever, it was still really good. And the entire menu is available to you (with minimal extra cost for specialty rolls). Spicy rolls, tempura rolls, you name it they had it. Maybe the most interesting thing we had was an appetizer called the "Yummy Crunch". It was like a tostada, but had a wonton crisp, with a fish mixture, and spicy sauce on top. I would come back here for sure if I had an insatiable desire for sushi, and didn't want to drive to Denver for my favorite sushi.

Food was good but the service was so bad that I gave it one star. The waitress was a ***** And made my experience so horrible... probably the worst service ever since she was all grumpy for no reason. I rather have a server that doesn't like their job

I have never eaten here, but I worked here once for two weeks. Don't blame the waitresses blame management. They constantly post ads on Craigslist because no one will stay. They say no experience is needed and they will train you. But they basically throw you to the wolves. They expect you to wait on half the resaurant, prep food, answer phones, and prepare to go orders. They're constantly yelling and they threaten to take tips away if you leave a door cracked. They're very very rude.

Lazy sushi! Got rainbow roll and all it was rice, hardly any fish or avocado. Do not recommend. Waste of money.

My husband and I have been here a few times when we want sushi, and we're really hungry. Their AYCE sushi dinner for $25 is hard to beat. But we've been going there less frequently and last night's dinner secured that trend. Service -- The hostess was friendly enough, but the rest was AWFUL. Strike 1: We got there last night, and they told us 10-15 minutes. We were seated 30-45 minutes later -- not that I mind waiting 30-45 minutes. I just mind waiting that long at 8:00 p.m when I've been told it'd be 10-15 minutes. Strike 2: By the time we were FINALLY seated, there were SIX other tables open. One was a six top, and I get not wanting to put a party of two there. But at 8:45 in Colorado Springs? You're not getting much more business at that point of the night. And if you do -- you can push the other five tables together. Strike 3: The two other parties that came in after us and were seated immediately after us -- which I didn't have a problem with. I think it's bad planning since I watched the tables leave and they didn't all leave at once. What I had a problem with was that they got served first -- greated first then their drinks, apps, food and checks before us. Strike 4: Our waiter said two things to us all night: "What do you want to drink?" then "Are you ready to order?" Anytime I'd say thank you for something -- no response. When I asked for another menu, he turned, got a menu, brought it back, I said thank you -- no response. Strike 5 -- He left before we even got our check! My husband said he saw him walk out while we'd been sitting there for 15 minutes with empty plates waiting for a check. Finally, another waitress came over and asked how we were. She brought us the check, and the rest was prompt. Suffice it to say -- if we ever go back, we will request another server. Food -- Hit and miss. Pro 1: Like I said, AYCE sushi for $25 is hard to beat when you have a husband with a bottomless stomach. Pro 2: They have a good selection of apps, nigiri, rolls, etc. Pro 3: My spicy scallop nigiri was nice and spicy. My favorite thing last night. Strike 6: We've had a few nights where we've said to one another "This is a good roll! They must have a good chef on tonight." But last night, every single roll we ordered had SO much rice it made the rest of it nearly obsolete. Strike 7: The rice was warm on the nigiri and fresh rolls we ordered. Really? Warm rice on fresh fish. Gag me. Strike 8: The plates were warm, too -- only compounding the issue. Strike 8: I don't know if my waiter did it on purpose, but there was SO much nasty liquid in my seaweed salad. I always order seaweed salad, and this one was just disgusting. So. My husband and I decided we'd rather pay a little more for better sushi and service. We might try Sushi Ring next time. I've heard great things about their AYCE sushi for $27. Or my favorite sushi place that has nigiri atleast 3x the size of the nigiri fish pieces is Ai -- off Garden of the Gods. I HIGHLY recommend it. They don't have specials or happy hour, but it's hands down the freshest, BEST sushi you'll find in the Springs. It's not affiliated with the Ai on Powers. My favorite place on the eastside, Tako closed. We'll come back to Rakkyo next time we have ample time to sit around and wait, want to fill up on rice and have the patience to tolerate chancing another service encounter like that. The two stars are for the friendliness of the two waitresses there last night and the sushi chefs, and the OK experiences we've had before.

Loved the seared salmon tempura roll and Philadelphia roll. I later saw they had a galbi Korean BBQ roll. We will be going back to try it soon. I wish we had the budget to eat here every week, although it isn't overpriced. Our bill was about $23.00 for two people. They had a good variety of prices. Some of the rolls were under $5.

I have been here a couple of times. Never disappointed. I have only been to the lunch buffet once and I thought it was well worth the $15. The menu is smaller than the dinner buffet. The lunch buffet menu contains all the simple rolls and sushi. The main difference is the fancy rolls (i.e. Dragon Roll, Rainbow roll, Air Force Tower, etc.) Personally, I love the $15 lunch buffet. From my experience from the dinner and lunch, the appetizers and sushi are sooooooo much better than the other AYCE sushi buffet at Mobo Sushi. I don't think I will ever go back to Mobo Sushi just because this place is so much better. Even the $15 lunch buffet compared to Mobo Sushi's $22 buffet is better. Everything is fresher and tastier. Sushi Rakkyo knows how to control the sushi flow for the buffets. Therefore, they do not give your second and third orders as fast as your first one. But even the first order takes a while. From my experience, it takes at least 20 minutes for the first order to come out.

This was such a disappointment. My wife and I were hoping that this would be another awesome sushi destination. FAIL. We ordered an assortment of rolls and all of them sucked royally. Any sushi chef will tell you the two most important things about sushi. The rice and the fish. ("uh, duhhh?" we as Americans have taken it farrrr past just these two ingredients). Believe it or not sushi is centered around the rice. So if you screw that up I'm done with you. I wish I could give this place some credit, any credit. But when your spicy tuna roll tastes like canned tuna with Sriacha. You have royally Fu@#ed up. The only reason I didn't give them one star is they happily took the garbage off our bill and didn't make us pay for BS. I won't be coming back.....EVER.

Yelp...you've been failing me as of late...I think I should remember reading all the reviews and scrubbing them for legitimacy prior to bookmarking restaurants just based on star ratings. Sushi Rakkyo currently has 16 flagged reviews...usually this is a bad sign until I found out that one of my buddy's, Mongoose K's, review was flagged too. I just don't get it. Some of the flagged reviews are 4-5 star...some are 1-2 stars and some are even right in the middle with 3 stars. So strange! Anyway, Mongoose K. recommended Sushi Rakkyo to Cobra K. and The Woman so we trusted his judgement. We heard about the $15 lunch All You Can Eat (AYCE) special and the $25 dinner AYCE special so decided to come here on a Saturday night for dinner. And with most places like Sushi Rakkyo possessing so many flagged reviews, I checked my ass in and posted some pictures! I'm legit YELP! We were seated immediately even though the restaurant was at 90% capacity...and at 5:30pm too! Crazy...tons of people love this place! We ended up sitting at the bar because we just wanted to experience the service there instead of the dining room. FIRST IMPRESSION: Damnit...another Korean owned sushi restaurant. Hopefully, they bring this one home! SERVICE: Wait staff were attentive, provided menus rapidly, continually checked up on us, delivered our check when requested and IMO, did everything they were supposed to. SUSHI BAR CHEFS: My only issue was that when sitting at the sushi bar, there tends to be more interaction between the sushi chefs and the customers. At a great sushi restaurant, the chefs will entertain you, make conversation, find out about you and share drinks with you. Great sushi chefs are like bartenders, able to create the perfect concoction based on you mood and enhance your experience at the bar. Sushi Rakkyo chefs work on making sushi...period...end...dot. PRE SLICED FISH: First thing Cobra noticed was that the fish in the cases were already pre-sliced. Cobra doesn't know if they were pre-sliced by a machine or by hand...regardless, there's a philosophy out there. Some sushi connoisseurs believe that one of the most important things about sushi (aside from it coming from extremely fresh fish) is that the fish be eaten within a certain time frame of being sliced and put atop sushi rice. It has something to do with the fish oils being release at slicing and being at optimum condition when put on the rice. Pre-sliced fish goes against that. RICE: The rice in several of the rolls or "maki" and nigiri we had varied in texture, temperature and taste. Some of the sushi tasted like the rice was a few days old and a little dried out. Other sushi seemed softer in texture. We even saw steaming rice being rolled and raw fish being placed on top. DON'T PUT RAW FISH ON WARM RICE! Fish should be cold! The less time it is handled, the less chance it has of getting warm...the worst thing you can do is put it on warm rice! Anyway, rice is the fundamental thing any sushi chef should know how to make. If a restaurant delivers inconsistent rice, don't return. ROLL COMPOSITION: One of the things people don't understand about good sushi is how it is made...this consists of a few elements. 1st element is the rice. Someone else mentioned that the rice used was of cheaper grain...I can vouch as I didn't enjoy any of the rice in any of my maki/nigiri. 2nd element is the fish...as previously stated, should be fresh, cold and not pre-sliced. 3rd element is how well the maki are made and sliced. We felt that some of the rolls just fell apart when picking them up with our chopsticks or even fingers (and yes, sushi is eaten with hands in Japan). This can result in your soy sauce dipping bowl being filled with rice. 4th element is proportion...you shouldn't have maki or nigiri with too much rice and not enough fish. You'll end up getting sick of eating sushi because there's just too much damn rice in the sushi (nigiri is fish over a small mound of rice and usually is preferred by those who have a taste for raw fish because it provides a higher ratio of fish to rice). Sushi Rakkyo's AYCE sushi dinner, though it sounds great, leaves me not wanting to eat any more sushi because the maki and nigiri have too much rice! For those who don't know, the perfect proportion for nigiri is 60% rice to 40% fish. Any proportions of rice bigger than 60% is low rent and the restaurant should be avoided. SASHIMI: Real raw fish lovers tell rice to FCK OFF! There is no sashimi option for the AYCE dinner. Booooo! TEMPURA UDON: Udon was good...the fried shrimp tempura...worst I've ever had. Portion was also very small...not sure how much it would be on it's own as it was included in the AYCE price. Cobra won't be coming back.

Great quality food - fish was very fresh. Good portion size. Peaceful atmosphere. Overall good service. They gave us free miso soup when we asked if it came with our meal. But I had that weird feeling they were watching us the whole time and they seemed to pace around our table waiting for us to leave... could have been my imagination. I'll be back for the all you can eat sushi someday soon hopefully. Mmmmmm. Good water. PS. The rice was great...don't know what those other people were taking about. I recommend the Marilyn Mon Roll because the name is hilarious; it has tuna, yellowtail AND scallop and it has a delicate and very appropriate pink wrapper.

I have been to this place quite a few times with coworkers and friends. With absolute certainty I can say I will NEVER go back again. My friend and I ordered our usual lunch items from the all you can eat menu. We finished about more than half of everything (either because it wasn't enjoyable or there was no more room in the ol tummy). When the server came around and was asked for the check he told us there was a charge of $1.50 PER PIECE that was not finished. You are also not allowed to take the food home (not that I would have). We were both blown away by this rule. Never in the last year I've been going there has anyone ever threatened to charge extra if the food wasn't finished. I certainly understand not wanting to waste food. What I don't understand is them trying to make additional money on what people don't finish. If I ate 10 pieces or not, it costs them the same amount. I'm not ordering too much knowing that I won't be finishing it either. We ordered 2 rolls and 5 pieces of nigiri. All in all, I don't like being shamed by a server for wasting food. I paid for it and wont finish it if I don't want to. Also, I only ate half of my yogurt I bought yesterday. Suck on that Sushi Rakkyo.

Very disappointed. We took our daughter to this restaurant for her twelfth birthday, and got there at 7:30. The sign outside says that they are open until 8:30, but they obviously wanted us to leave right away. At 8:10 they told us that we had to pay because they wanted to run their report. The service was terrible and not friendly. We will not be back.

What a fun place! They have a number of tempting appetizers - which are all so good! But if you do all you can eat, steer clear; the appetizers will only take the place of the delicious sushi. If you must, the seaweed salad and mushrooms are excellent! Oh the sushi... Eel, salmon, tuna, whitefish.... It was all good. The staff was friendly, the building is cool. I'll see you again, Rakkyo!

We came here for the all you can eat lunch. There was a coupon in the news paper. It was great. It was $12.99 a person with the coupon. The service was super fast. It is the fastest I have ever gotten sushi. The calamari tempura was fantastic. There were a couple times that I thought the rice had a little too much vinegar but other than that, it was great! We will definitely be back.

Food is really good and comes fast, but wait staff is slow and snobby. The food makes up for the service, but the price is enough to keep me away for a while.

All you can eat sushi for $15 at lunch and $25 at dinner time is a pretty good deal. I had to laugh at some of the reviews that I read. People complaining about warm rice, bad service, wait time, the food, etc etc. Well lets remember that you are choosing to eat at an All You Can Eat Sushi buffet. I hope that you aren't expecting the royal treatment. AYCE (all you can eat) sushi restaurants are notorious for adding just a little more rice to their rolls and pieces. Think about why. For starters, it's AYCE. Of course they are going to add a little more rice to keep costs down and people from over eating. Fresh sushi typically has warm rice so if you're used to eating sushi with warm stiff rice then I'm sorry for you. Your sushi heart should be sad. PS don't complain about the fact that if you don't finish what you order that you get charged. It's stated on the AYCE sushi sheet and has been that way since they opened. With that little rant out of the way, let's start with my real review. I live in the area so when they first opened we were excited to try it. We went on a date night (Friday or Saturday) and we didn't have a long wait time. PS, they take reservations and it's good to do that if you have a larger group. When they first opened, there was a lack of organization, you didn't always get the right sushi order and they seemed a little chaotic. I blame that on the owners not properly training their staff. Still, our experience was okay. On another occasion, we had a party of 7 and 3 of us were at one table and 4 at another 3 tables away. This was my last straw for their unorganization. I had a long chat with the owner and they did all they could to correct the situation and take care of our party. Since then, we've had great experiences here. Food comes in a timely manor, there's more organization, and the staff is always friendly. When we want a cheapy sushi night this is where we go. The food is always fresh and tastes good. Just from trying their menu so many times, you learn what's good and what you should try and stay away from. While it's still a great deal and tastes good, I have seen where they have tried to cut corners and those are the items that I stay away from. Example, the octopus salad used to have slices of octopus in it. It's now diced up in little chunks (not that one should get a salad anyhow lol). I mostly stick to the pieces since I'm not really a fan of rolls (especially those that are baked and deep fried). The BBQ short ribs are good as well as the tempura items. The standard sushi items are good; miso soup, edamame, seaweed salad, etc etc. Don't order the dessert from there. The mocha icecream is not house made and most of the time shows up with freezer burn (yikes). The fried green tea icecream is kinda gross. Not the icecream but the tempura batter they use is not amazing. Overall, if you looking for something cheap and easy, this is the place to try. I've tried some other AYCE places around town and those were nasty. Everything from the décor to the food were cheap at those places. This place is clean, friendly, and has decent sushi for AYCE.

For all you can eat sushi this place wasn't bad. The sushi was ok and I ate a lot of it. I was impressed with how quickly the sushi came. What I didn't like was that the unagi roll didn't include any unagi. Ok, it had a little bit of unagi, but not enough to take over the flavor of avocado and rice. I also ate for lunch and the lunch menu didn't have as many items as the dinner menu does. I will try it for dinner and see if it is any good. Still for $14.95 and all you can eat sushi it is probably worth a visit.

A friend and I went today for their $12.95 lunch special that ends at 2:00. We arrive at 1:45 and the server immediately sits us at a table with 2 menus so we can choose our lunch. Then she proceeds to rush us to get the order in because the sushi chefs are waiting. We pick our choices and she took it to the chefs. She then comes back and wants to know if we've made any other selections with the other menu so she can get the order in. She knew we had just ordered and she informs us that they want any more orders to be turned in if we wanted more food. First of all, if you don't eat everything you order, they charge you additionally for it. With that being said we told her we wanted to wait until we finished the food we just ordered before getting anything else. She literally shook her head AND ROLLED HER EYES at us, then proceeded to walk away. She came back a couple of minutes later and told us the sushi chefs or manager get mad at her if she turns in orders later, while I explained we don't go there very often, we don't know what we want to try, we don't want to be rushed, AND we don't appreciate you rolling your eyes at us, you are very rude. I also told her if they have a problem with it, they could come speak to me directly which no one ever did. My friend and I were finished by 2:40 and left, NO TIP given. Here's your tip - don't rush people through even if it is before 2:00 and the lunch deal ends at 2, and teach your servers not to roll their eyes at you and don't fulfill a crap order with sushi that's nothing but rice because you want to do something else with yourself before the dinner crowd arrives. I'm not even sure we got everything we ordered, it seemed like we had a lot more things checked on the menu than it appeared we received. Probably won't eat here again if this is how you conduct your business.

I had the all you can eat lunch buffet. This includes appetizers, lunch entrees, nigiri (one piece rolls) and normal rolls. My brother and I got a yammy crunch, gyozas and fried calamari. This would be $6 a plate normally? Everything was good for a buffet. The calamari was a little bit battery. The rolls were alright. Nothing spectacular, but I was a fan of the calamari. Everything was fresh considering we are in a landlocked state. With all that said, can't beat all you can eat sushi for $15 in Colorado which is why I would give a 4 star and would come back if I had the chance.

Went here last Saturday for the AYCE deal for $25. The great part of the deal is that it also includes their entree items on top of the sushi. The quality was pretty good for Colorado and an AYCE place. The entree portions are small, which is good if you want to try a variety of items. Service was pretty good, a little minor things they could work on but they got the food out quick and that's all that matters. It was also good to see some Asian people behind the sushi counter.

We live nearby.... and have had many people tell us that for the $$ this is place pretty good. So - when I was asked for a sushi place to go to, I told them to go here. Well, like others have said, the SERVICE is lacking and I guess they didn't miss a step on this occassion either. Friends said they got there - place was basically empty and STILL THE SERVICE WAS TERRIBLE. SO, lesson learned... even though the $$ is good for the food, if the service is poor, makes for a crappy time.

Don't let the "All You Can Eat" thing scare you away, this place is really good! There is a great variety and it is very fresh. Definitely my #1 sushi pick for the Springs. The atmosphere is really neat, with an industrial meets Asian theme. It is a little too loud for the intimate lighting and for whatever reason, there always seems to be a family with untamed children present. The staff won't ask a parent to have the kid stop running around, but if you ask them, they will. I don't give it 5 stars because the service is good half the time, but varies between mediocre and bad the other half. About once every 3 months there is something weird with the food prep and I have to send something back. Definitely try the Air Force Ahi Tower for a spicy surprise! All the sexually named rolls are really, really good, too--and I am not a tempura fan (see orgasm roll, viagra roll). Dinner AYCE is $25 a person and lunch is $15 (I think). Definitely worth your while!

A friend gave me a gift certificate here for my birthday. It was the first time i had ever heard of it. They have all you can eat sushi for $25 per person. We stuffed our faces and everything was delicious. The server was an adorable asian lady and we just loved her to pieces!

Pleasantly surprised! My boyfriend noticed the small sign that said "all you can eat sushi" in the window and immediately said LET'S GOOOO! My aunt had a coupon from the paper, which was nice, but they only accepted the coupon for $22.50 for one of us :( oh well. They have a special limited menu for the all you can eat, but it still has a lot of variety. You can get soups, appetizers, hot entrees, and sushi or rolls. The basics such as salmon, tamago, and yellowtail were good, the specialty rolls were standards--rainbow, philly, etc. Everything was a decent size. I really enjoyed the kalbi too, perfectly cooked, but you only get 4 small pieces. I made sure we ordered sunomono with extra vinegar to cleanse our palate and not feel as full. The waitress was attentive, she kept wanting us to get more drinks! HA! We are buffet experts and only drank a bit of hot tea and no cold water to fill us up!. Overall I enjoyed Rakkyo and look forward to going again.

This is a review for the $25 all you can eat dinner...... My first thought was how good could this place be? First of all, Colorado Springs is not known for a great dining scene and the city is certainly not the hub for Japanese food. However, I like to keep an open mind and who doesn't like all you can eat Japanese food? The menu offered a lot of options for an all you can eat sushi joint. After ordering, the food was ready fairly quick. The sushi was surprisingly fresh. The salmon, yellow tail and tuna was flavorful and did not have a strong fishy smell like some restaurants. I tried many of the specialty rolls such as the rainbow roll and volcano roll which was included in the all you can eat menu. Overall the sushi was good. Now, the menu also offered entrees. The entrees come in smaller portions. I would recommend ordering two entrees if you want a full portion. I also tried a few of the appetizers. The cucumber salad or their version of sunomomo was pathetic, but everything else was really good. I know you are reading this and asking yourself....well, there are a lot of reviews that give this place a negative review. My thought...if you are comparing this place to a restaurant like Sushi Den in Denver, you are going to be disappointed. If you are comparing this place to a Japanese restaurant you went to that sits a block away from the ocean, you are going to be disappointed. Now with that being said, this place is a decent Japanese restaurant for being in Southern Colorado.

We live blocks from this restaurant and have visited on several occasions. We had some new friends, who also live in the Briargate area and had never been to the restaurant, join us for dinner tonight. After spending over $200 here, the manager asked us to leave because they had people waiting to be seated. We are not a young group (we all have grandchildren) and have NEVER been asked to leave a restaurant in all our years. On our way out, there was at least 1 empty table. The rudest experience we have ever had.

Went for the all you can eat sushi for $25 and I was very well satisfied with the sushi there. Took a bit of time between orders to bring the sushi, but hey quality takes time! Big fan of the rainbow roll, quality fish...delish.

Classic, underwhelming Japanese restaurant in CO. I've been here twice, one day the sushi was above average, this time the food and service was mediocre. I'll give it another shot one day-maybe.

Stumbled on to this place in the middle of ragging downpour of rain. Did the all-you-can eat sushi, and thought the fish to be of good quality, with imaginative rolls. The service and sushi chef were great. Will return.

Sushi Rakkyo is one of my favorite restaurants in the Springs. The atmosphere is pretty good, and it's clean. The waiters are pretty nice, but sometimes they are too busy running around getting orders and delivering food. The quality of the nigiri isn't the most fresh, but still better than just decent. They have other choices in their AYCE menu that makes the experience even better. I would highly recommend the AYCE because majority of their menu is on there. The price I believe is 24.95 without tax and tips per person.

  • Kelly M.

Holy sushi awesomeness that was good! I went here with some friends lunch and had the all you can eat sushi special for 14.95. The way it works is they give you the all you can eat menu and you can order anything on that particular menu. As long as you finish everything it is only $14.95 per person (lunch price). We paced ourselves and ordered 1-2 rolls per order and I am sure between the 4 of us we ate $200 worth of sushi. This is not cheap poorly made sushi some of the other all you can eat places try to pass off as sushi. No, no this stuff is good. The fish is VERY fresh and the rolls are the perfect size to stuff in your mouth without feeling like a slob. The service was decent enough but I was in such a sushi coma by the end I doubt I would have noticed if it was anything else. I hear this place gets pretty busy at night and the service suffers as such so I would highly recommend checking them out in the afternoon. Well worth the all you can eat. I am especially a fan of the spicy tuna crunch roll and the Philadelphia roll. The perfect balance of fish, other ingredients and rice. Yummy! I will be back, and I will bring friends!

We've never had their all you can eat deal, but we've been to Rakkyo many times and love this place! The atmosphere is pleasant and clean. The staff are extremely pleasant and friendly, and the food is consistently good. The gyoza is delicious, and the miso soup is excellent. I highly recommend this restaurant!

The sushi is good, but the service is CRAP. The server with glasses sucks. He brought us food we didn't even order, twice. Everything was good, but if the service isn't there, you don't have a restaurant business, just food. Also, I just think all servers should write on a notepad of some sort, none of this I'll remember it in my head bs.

YUMMY!!!!! This is definitely my go-to place for sushi in the Springs. Everything is really good...just be warned, if you get the all you can eat you HAVE to finish everything you order or else you get charged for whatever it left. So I would definitely under-order and finish that course before you decide if you want to order more or not. I plan on becoming at least a semi-regular at this place. Can't wait to go again!

This is the first time that I had ever eaten at an all-you-can-eat sushi place when I felt that the quality of the sushi really made the deal truly worth it. Plus, the menu was positively expansive, with tons of creative rolls - a lot of which really made me say "holy crap, I want to try that!" Some of the more complex or abitious rolls may cost you more (2.00 per, which is still economically sound.) Most of them were pretty awesome. Some, however, feel absolutely flat (Sushi Pizza? after trying that, I'd rather have my hand covered in tempura batter and deep fried.) The four of us devoured mountains of sushi, and certainly made it worth while. The staff was pleasent and helpful, and inside it has a very sleek look, with lots of neon lights and modern fixtures. There is an extensive sake list, and it's really quite good. We had hoped to try the deserts (homemade green tea ice-cream looked awesome) but were far too full to eat anything else. Definitely recommend, will go again.

I think I found my new favorite sushi restaurant in the region. It's down the street from another favorite, Kura, but this place is more quiet and 'homey'. Basically what Kura used to be before they sold out with the teppanyaki tables... Nothing wrong with teppanyaki tables. They just tend to bring in the birthday crowds. Here at Sushi Rakkyo, they put great emphasis on simplicity. The fish is fresh, the rolls are unique, and quite delicious! I went three times for lunch and had such rolls as the Crawfish Volcano with yummy baked crawfish on top. I also had the monk fish liver, which is hard to come by here in Colorado Springs, even a stretch for Denver. Monk fish liver for you non foodies, mimics the buttery and savoriness of foie gra. It has to be fresh otherwise it loses that greatness. Did I mention the fish was fresh? The color of the salmon, the tuna, and yellowtail... Take a long look and enjoy. The fish does not have the fishy smell. The colors are bright and warm. This place definitely rocks. I'll have to try the $25 'all you can eat' menu. If you look at the 'all you can eat' menu, $25 is a steal, considering they have a high quality section with some of their best rolls on display. Stop by, you will not be disappointed. 5 stars are hard to come by in my realm but this place did it.

Wow people in this town must not care much about what they eat just as long as they get to eat as much of it as they want. I stumbled on this place while actually looking for something else and should have known better than to stay once I saw the "all you can eat" option. If a restaurant is going to offer an option like that don't expect the highest quality ingredients. The sushi rice was mushy as a result of being poor quality and overcooked. Same for the imitation crab (in its various forms, whether in the California rolls or in the udon)--mushy and borderline inedible. The broth for the udon was tasteless. Not "light" (since you could see the oil on the surface) but just plain tasteless. The seafood in the seafood udon was pre-packaged frozen crap that was probably thawed in the soup while they were making it. The udon noodles were also--you guessed it--mushy from being overcooked. The fish cake was sliced as thin as paper and I got maybe two pieces of that with the smallest piece of shrimp tempura I've ever seen. The wasabi was mild and the ginger was stale and old. In other words, they get the cheapest food they can get so they can just serve a lot of it and make people happy with quantity instead of actual quality ingredients. Service was ok except that instead of charging me the flat "all you can eat" fee from the menu I ordered from, they charged me per item (one entree and two nigiri), which ended up costing me $5 more than the "all you can eat" price. I'd rather eat pre-packaged "sushi" from Safeway than come here again: the quality would be about the same and would be less than half the price.

The All You Can Eat lunch ($17) and dinner ($25) specials are a great deal, if you have an awesome capacity for tasty sushi. As with most such deals, do not order more than you finish, and do not leave the rice behind. But you can even eat all cooked foods and still be eating the All You Can Eat special -- they'll make tempura and yakisoba and all sorts of yummy dishes, and you get to try them all! You could seriously spend $40-$50 on a medium-large sushi order that will run you $25 here. I started with miso, for tradition's sake -- and it too is on the "All You Can Eat" menu. That said, my first test for a sushi place is ikura. I have had ikura that might have been sold as bait (in Washington State, go figure!), and I have had ikura the way Rakkyo makes it: delightfully mild and tender salmon roe wrapped in a fresh, crisp piece of nori (just the right texture for nori), with the roe cool and the sushi rice warm -- ooooh! needless to say, I ordered two more, just to be certain it wasn't a fluke of deliciousness... My second test for sushi is hamachi. I could eat hamachi all day. If I caught a yellowtail, I would probably be able to eat the whole thing (meat, not fins and bones :-) The hamachi nigiri here is very good, but they top it with a fresh salsa: they make it themselves and it's very tasty, but for me it gets in the way of that great hamachi taste a little -- so I ate the salsa first, then a little gari, then the hamachi... yum. Third test: salmon (sake). This was the only drawback, and it was probably just the day I came (Monday is always problematic for fish restaurants). The salmon was sliced pretty thin, and was starting to separate -- that is, the muscle fibers were pulling away from each other. That usually means the fish is getting on in days. But I had to interrogate it to be certain... it tasted fine. All salmon in the Rocky Mountain district is given a light smoke to help preserve it (according to one of my sources who handles the ordering for another sushi restaurant), but once the texture starts to pull apart a little it would be a good idea to go with a thicker cut so the patrons can't see rice in the gaps. I have to give the salmon round to Jun still, his people put a small dot of wasabi under the salmon, which is not thin, and put a small ribbon of nori around the whole piece, which is a nice presentation and spectacular when the salmon is buttery-soft and fresh. On the other hand, I would have spent about $50 buying this much sushi there -- so it's good to have competition! Wild card: saba (mackerel) -- somehow slightly preserved, I'm not sure how, but two weeks ago I was preparing freshly caught king mackerels on a boat, so I do know their texture when raw - this was tougher. Brined and then a freshwater soak? Not sure. note that I have not had truly fresh mackerel nigiri in Colorado yet; that's OK, I know the coast is a long way off! Rakkyo clearly Rakks! Glad they have come to Colorado Springs.

So, I'm having a hard time grasping why this wonderful establishment has such varying and, in some cases, quite negative reviews. The service was friendly and prompt, the food was great, and the price reasonable for an all you can eat place. They make the sushi fresh each time you order, and the rolls we had were nothing short of fantastic-fresh fish, great sauces and awesome tempura appetizers (included in the all you can eat!). Will look forward to going back soon.

Excellent - could be the new Best of Sushi for the Springs Ambience: Nice quiet place in a strip mall opposite Memorial North Hospital. Typical sushi bar design with TVs permanently glued to the Golf Channel. Service: Polite and friendly. Not always clear with explanations, but I've now gone there enough times that I know how stuff works so it doesn't faze me any more. Food: Probably the best sushi in the Springs. I live near both Jun's and Ai and eat sushi once a week. Even though this is on the other side of town it is my new favorite. The value is a little better but the quality is a star above. Don't be fooled by the "all-you-can-eat" which tends to be poor quality in most places. Here it is definitely worth it and would be at twice the price. moreover the AYCE menu has all sorts of other items to choose from which non-sushi eaters can throw in including gyoza, terriaki meats, soups and salads. You really can't beat this, and with a crowd of picky eaters it's a good way to introduce them into sushi. Price: Really good value. The AYCE is $15 for lunch which is amazing. A la carte can be even cheaper if you are not hungry. All in all worth the trip out into the boonies.

Rather disappointing to say the least. The service here is pretty bad, the portion size is very small, and the overall quality of food just does not live up to the over priced menu. I ordered the vegetable tempura and the portion size was small. It came with seven pieces of extremely small vegetables and it cost $8. My friend ordered a roll. Usually the pieces of sushi in a roll are larger than normal pieces of sushi, but his roll was average sized. It cost him $10 and it was definitely not worth the money. Aide from the food the waitress sat us and did not take our food or drinks order for at least 20 minutes. Th waitress was not very welcoming or friendly either. Overall the experience of eating at Sushi Rakkyo was not a memorable experience and I would not recommend it.

Enjoyed our experience here. Not quite as good as a certain 3 letter sushi place in town but none the less enjoyable. All you can eat/happy hour sushi deal can't be beat. Service was excellent, we will definitely be back.

Ok just go! This is a no joke great place. My family including a three year old has not had a bad experience here. The all you can eat option IMO is the best value since you can get traditional sides like Miso soup as well as tempura, teriyaki and even Bulgogi. The lunch roll selections are limited compared to dinner but they are very tasty. I prefer the white tuna, salmon and yellow tail which were very good for Colorado. The service is attentive and friendly. Since the "death" of Akasaka this place is where we go for sushi.

In a previous review I said that my favorite C Springs sushi joint was Kura. Well...I think I may have to retract that. Sushi Rakkyo is amazing! Completely unassuming from the outside, you can barely even see it from the street (it's tucked away in the corner of the Union/Briargate King Soopers plaza), but once you get in, the place is large and very nicely decorated. I highly recommend the all you can eat deal ($25 per person--and you get charged for what's left behind). The all you can eat selection is like nothing else I've seen in the area! Soups, salads, hot entrees (udon, korean short ribs, gyoza, and more!), and TONS of great sushi! With an all you can eat sushi meal, you'd expect the standard low-quality rolls, but Sushi Rakkyo is out to impress! They really work into making their rolls artistic. The Air Force tower roll (i think that's what it's called) is a perfect example--beautiful and even more scrumptious!! Service was polite and accommodating. There were no issues when we requested separate checks for our pretty large party. My only piece of advice. Stop just before you think you've topped out. Each time I've come here, I felt I was in heaven and once I hit the point I should've stopped, I ate a little more and ended feeling like sushi was the least appetizing thing in the world. That says a lot for the sushi-lover that I am!

I love this place! The sushi, service, and atmosphere are perfect. They offer an all you can eat menu for $14.95 per person, not including drinks. And that is during the week for lunch. On Sunday, the price for the all-you-can-eat is $24.95. I highly recommend the "Caterpillar" and the "Volcano" rolls.

Excellent, extremely fresh creations. Not perfect, and service is still getting the kinks worked out, but several choice selections. The snapper was excellent and the Academy Ahi tower thing was a fun, sweet variation on spicy tuna. My 5 yr old was pounding rolls off of the seared salmon tempura roll. Quote affordablle with a great $5 chicken teriyaki kids' meal.

Great friendly service and the all you can eat sushi for $25 is great! The downside is if you are full and order too much then they advise on their memo that they can charge you regular price for each piece. I love this new local sushi restaurant close to home!!

I have to update my original review for Sushi Rakkyo as I will never be going back. I have gone back 3 times since my first post on 10/31/2011, and it has gotten downhill ever since. I went this last time with some out of town friends for lunch. First off, they tried to charge us the dinner price. I kept arguing that it was Friday at noon and should get the lunch prices. My friends said whatever so we stayed. It was not very busy and there were 3 servers. We ordered food and waited... and waited... and waited... and waited. After 30 minutes I asked where our food was and our waiter ignored us. I waived the hostess over, told her we haven't gotten any food yet and she looked at me and asked if it was good. Okay, language barrier, but NO, not good... NO FOOD. The waiter eventually comes (now at 45 minutes) with 2 plates of food that we didn't even order. I sent them back. She came back 10 minutes later with the same 2 plates of food. 1 hour=no food. No good.

Did the all-you-can eat sushi lunch. The fish was decent, but thin for the heavy usage of rice. I would like to try the non all-you-can eat menu. Service was not too good and we waited long periods of time to place order, get check, pay check, get water refills, etc. If you do the all-you-can eat, prepare to eat a lot of rice. Note this is a Korean-operated place, so it is easy to find Korean dishes, but not some Japanese dishes.

I'm not a sushi fan, but even I could tell that the food was fresh, tasty and beautifully presented. The service was fine- no problem keeping my water refilled- the venue is average but with a great view of the mountains and the pricing seemed fair for an all-you-can-eat set-up.

Great sushi! I've eaten a LOT of sushi, and this is some of the best. Lots of unique rolls, but they do the classics well too. In terms of sushi, I think this is the best in the Springs, but I also really like Kura which is right down the road. I wish I could remember the names of the rolls we got (it was a while ago), because there was a spicy one that I would go back for. Also, go for your birthday! When I was there, there were two birthdays and the chef made this AMAZING fruit sculpture. My birthday was the next day and I definitely regretted not telling them. I'd seen him working on it while we were there and couldn't figure it what it was for. Impressive work. In terms of service, we were personally served promptly and were well taken care of. Plus, it was super new when we went and I believe in letting people work out the kinks. But like I said, our service was fine - can't complain,

The quality wasn't quite as good as some other sushi restaurants in the area, but I just loved the all-you-can-eat concept. It was so nice to try one or two pieces of nigiri, and a couple of rolls, and then order more depending on my mood and experience with the earlier rounds. I typically get rolls because that seems to fill me up for less money than nigiri. But I realize I like certain nigiri more and this place allows me to simply enjoy without the nagging thought that I'm racking up a huge bill. Guilt and stress free ordering and enjoyment. But I'm also not interested in abusing the system by ridiculously stuffing myself.

I haven't been to Sushi Ring or Kura, so I can't say (Tabatha F., another reviewer here, prefers both of them.) What I can say is that for $30, a good friend and I tried to kill ourselves with Spicy Tuna Roll Crunch. All you can eat lunch $15, until 2:00pm. It's basically everything on the small write out what you want menu. Entrees, appetizers, nigiri, california rolls. The portions are appropriate. So if you are hungry and don't want to break the bank, this place is pretty good.

The all you can eat sushi lunch for $14.95 is a steal! It is a more limited menu than the dinner all you can eat which is $24.95, but still has a huge list of choices. Besides sushi and nigiri, you can choose apps (tempura, edamame, salad, etc) as well as main dishes (teriyaki chicken, beef bolgogi). You do have to finish everything you order, and can always order more. They were surprisingly efficient for the massive order we put in. In fact, I was afraid our crew would ruin it as we surely ordered enough to put the restaurant at a loss for profit that day, but the waitress was very sweet and encouraged us to go for the record- 3 people, 24 rolls. No chance!

We did the all you can eat which is something I am not used to hearing with sushi. It was excellent! Fresh & delicious. 911 roll was great! We will definitely be back.

We went with another couple last night for the all you can eat sushi for $25 per person. The food was incredible and the service was amazing. When we first walked in, the entire staff greeted us with a little cheer (kind of like when you go to Cold Stone). The all you can eat sushi menu included soup, salads, appetizers, nigiri and (of course) sushi rolls. There were also some non-sushi main courses that we did not try. We were too late but if you go between 5-7 Monday through Saturday, drinks including Sake are buy one get one free. Our bill was $150 including 4 large Sakes for four people so not inexpensive but we definitely got our money's worth. Lunch is $15 per person and we were told the menu is smaller for lunch. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a very warm and inviting atmosphere. We will definitely be back again!

I've been looking forward to eating at Sushi Rakkyo ever since it opened, and ever since Sushi Kura (a favorite - a mile away) had gotten so crowded that it became tough to get in. I was hoping for sushi comparable to Kura, but, unfortunately, it's not to be. We arrived around 5:30 on a Friday - a good thing since we were seated right away - but it got crowded soon after we sat down. The service was good, but the sushi was only fair. We started by ordering two sunomono cucumber salads - one for myself and one for my wife. Unfortunately they only had one left (yes - at 5:30 in the evening), and my wife graciously let me have it. Too bad - it was boring. A very small amount of thinly sliced cukes in a little bit of sesame flavored vinegar sauce. My wife and daughter ordered Miso soup, which generally comes at no extra cost with a sushi meal, but here was priced at about $4.00 a bowl. The three in our party ordered an assortment of rolls, from a plain philly roll, to an elaborate fried Rakkyo roll. All of them were mediocre tasting, although they were beautifully presented, with little garnishes liked sliced strawberries. The server forgot the wasabi, so we had to wait for that to be brought out later. Unfortunately, the blandness of the rolls didn't overcome the presentation, and we all left feeling unsatisfied despite a $75 tab. So - my recommendation for sushi is to drive the extra 2 minutes to Kura. That said, what we didn't try was the "all you can eat" for $25. The all you can eat menu was chock full - I was impressed by the variety. And it wasn't just sushi on the all you can eat menu. There were appetizers, salads, main dishes, as well as basic rolls. So, Rakkyo might be worth second shot for the all you can eat menu, but I would never order it during a busy time since it seems like it would take a long time to get refills - you might not get your money's worth.

I've been to this restaurant a handful of times, both for lunch and dinner. Coming from New York City, I've been to better Japanese restaurants, but for the Springs, I'd say the quality of the food is above average, not quite as good as "Jun", but still better than the rest out there. What makes this place great is the deal they have on the weekends. For $15 on Saturday, you can order as much as you want from a limited menu. Or for $25 Saturday Night, or all day Sunday, you can order pretty much anything, from appetizers, entrees, or any of the rolls, except a few of the specialty rolls like "spider rolls" (soft shell crab). For the full menu, it's only $3 more. And your food is made to order, not like the cheaper "all you can eat" chinese buffets throughout the Springs, where the food sits there for who knows how long. Given how pricey sushi can be, that's a grat deal. It does seem like their menu options change slightly though but I haven't been there enough to be sure. As far as appetizers, their miso soup, edamame, seaweed salad, and tempura are all good. I've also tried both the pork and chicken tonkatsu (cutlet), which were both alright, although one of them was a bit dry- I suspect the chicken. I was pleasantly surprised at how good their bulgogi was, not expecting to see Korean fare in a Japanese place. As far as their actual sushi, their seafood is good quality. The one thing I would warn about is a bunch of rolls are doused with mayo, which for me does not sit well-the "orgasm roll" is one that comes to mind. And you have to be careful what you order, because they'll penalize you if you don't finish. The place itself is set up like a typical Japanese restaurant with a sushi bar. There are no hibachi tables because it is not a steak house. Most times I've been, it's been quite crowded so it is a popular place. Although the servers are very nice and attentive, I have felt that they give me looks like "when is this guy gonna leave-he's eating all our profits." Once, they surprised my party with a origami like apple cut to look like a swan.

Fun place to go for the all you can eat buffet. You sit down and get a checklist style ordering menu and then they bring you food. The portions are small, but I like that because you can get lots of different things. The sushi is ok, nothing fabulous, but what do you want for $14.95 all you can eat?

I've eaten here three times. The first two times were great, no complaints, the third time the service was terrible, most of our orders didn't come out, and then they just ignored us for 30 minutes on lunch break, making us late for work, without bringing water, tea, our check, more sushi, news that no more sushi was coming or anything. I'm was very upset at this lapse in serve/respect and will never eat at that place again.

We went for the AYCE dinner, curious how it was going to be especially after reading the mixed reviews. we are serious Japanese food eaters, and have a mental category of "real Japanese food" and "general public Japanese food." We went to Rakkyo with the second category in mind, given that we are in Colorado Springs. The quality of the food and the service was great. We ordered multiple appetizers, and they arrived quickly in a well presented manner. The tempuras were good (grade: B+), the sushis were fresh (B+/A-) of material expected at this type of restaurant at this price range. The rolls were pleasant too. Again, not of super fancy ingredients (would not expect it for this price, $25pp dinner sushi), but it was good B+/A-. The fried rolls felt heavy, but it may be because i simply do not like fried rolls and would never order them a la carte. I think this is a worthwhile dinner experience, and will visit again. If one is looking for top notch quality, no, don't go to Rakkyo because an all you can eat setting is simply not where you would get the quality of a $5-8 per sushi place you find in the west coast. But if you want to have good food in a comfortable setting, and be able to try all kinds of sushis without the guilt associated with a la carte menus, this is an absolute must-go. I had a positive experience, and again, will visit again

My wife and I decided to try this place last night and I have to say it was a pleasant surprise. We went on a Saturday night around 7pm and it was packed! Next time we go back I think 8pm may be a better time. We tried the all you can eat sushi and it was really good. We both love Saba so we ordered them first..I did not expect much since it was all you can eat , but the quality was pretty good as well as the other sushi we ordered. The staff was friendly and attentive ,but when it got really busy the service slowed a bit which is understandable. The highlight of our night is when the chef gave us a treat at the end of the night by making a swan out of an apple! It was totally unexpected and really cool. My wife could not stop taking pics of it. We love sushi and always trying new places here in CO and CA. Overall we definitely will go back and could easily be one of our favorites in the Springs.

The sushi is really good for being all you can eat. It's not buffet style, it's more of a traditional sushi ordering experiance. They give you a menu with four sections: salad/soup, appetizers, nigiri, and rolls. It gets rather busy on Fridays and Saturdays so be prepared for a 2+ hour experiance.

My friends and I go here pretty regularly for lunch and dinner. We usually get the all you can eat sushi, and I have to say...for the price ($15 for lunch and $25 for dinner per person) you get tons of choices off the all you can eat menu, and it is WELL worth the price! We like to have a lot of different things without being forced to get 4 pieces of one kind of fish, and with the all you can eat menu, you can choose from lots of different rolls, tons of sushi, appetizers, and some entrees. We always end up ordering a lot of food, way more than $25 worth, and it always comes out super fast! Some people claim you HAVE to eat all that you order, but that's not true. They will charge 50 cents for each piece of sushi you don't eat so you can take it with you. Still a great deal, but we rarely have to do that. The wait staff is very friendly, the fish is always super fresh, and you get more than you pay for when ordering from the all you can eat menu. Highly recommend this restaurant!

Been here a couple of times for lunch, since its close to work, and its been Great every time!!! Did the All you can eat Lunch special, there's a good variety of sushi and the fish is good, all the different appetizers and entrees make it an interesting and different meal every time. All for less than $15, will definitely return time and time again.

I took my husband for an all you can eat sushi lunch on his birthday. Amazing. The service is outstanding; food was beautiful and tasted ten times better than it looked. Such a happy experience; we will never eat sushi anywhere else. The staff sang "Happy Birthday" and prepared a beautiful birthday dessert. We were delighted. The chef even put his hat on Mike's head! How fun! Thank you, thank you for making his birthday so special.

SO disgusting I don't even want to give them A star...can I do that? I have to say ANYONE giving this place a GOOD review is married to the owner. I have the worst indigestion. Service? ignored for a while, then got tepid dishwater flavored green tea. SUSHI was WORSE than the stuff you can get at a supermarket. The 'dragon roll' was just california roll with cooked eel thrown on top. (sorry I have to belch AGAIN). My daughter and I ordered Yaki soba with chicken and U KNOW the food is bad when the smell is nauseating AND the kid asks "Is there sauerkraut in my noodles?" holy crap the worst meal I have possibly had in my life. OH the wad of brown noodle/cabbage/chicken? MESS was thrown on a nice big curly LETTUCE LEAF. seriously???? are u people kidding. CLOSE THE DOORS this place will NOT last. SHOULD HAVE GONE TO KURA LIKE MY KID WANTED TO, MEA CULPA. thought I would give this place a try. NEVER again. The waitress walked by THREE TIMES, looked at my plate UNTOUCHED. NEVER asked a thing. Eventually said in basic English "You like check now? The miso soup, fyi is also disgusting, weird slimy seaweed, dishwater tasting soup. WHO THE HELL is in charge of this place??? Shame on you.

NEVER EVER eating here again. Came here upon a recommendation from a friend but was UTTERLY DISAPPOINTED. We ordered lunch all you can eat thinking it would be a good deal. Nigiri was RIDICULOUSLY SMALL. Fish was tiny with way too much rice. I ordered a couple rolls and again... way too much rice and very little fish. On top of this, the sushi rice tasted old which made me nauseous. They pretty much stuff you with rice and then charge you extra for not eating all the rice!

Great sushi eat-all-you-can which me and my family went while I was on a short vacation in CO. Although, I am from NY which great sushi places are just around the corner, they have a different sushi and nigiri styles I haven't tasted before. Names are fun to hear because they are taken from the air force leg of the Armed Forces which is based in CO Springs. How can I forget the Air Force Ahi Tower Roll! A go-to place if you plan to devour fresh sushi and get a fat belly. Yum aboard!

Reasonable price and excellent food. The suggestions of the sake that should accompany the meal were also spot on. Try the sake boom if with a group of friends. Loads of fun!!!

Sushi was okay, but not great. The service was relatively fast, but also not exactly friendly. It just seemed like the waiters were forcefully nice and almost passive aggressive. It's go go go for them. It wasn't a very inviting environment. Again, the sushi did taste good, but Sushi Ring II has just as good sushi for a way better price. I will not be coming back.

If you are really hungry and you feel like you can eat a cow and you love sushi, this place is the place to be. The food is great tasting and it's a pretty decent deal. The only thing about this place is the servers. They always ask for $5+ tip when their service isn't that great.

Something is up. I've been here about four times and on our latest visit the sushi was seriously miniature and rolls were slapped together and falling apart. Servers walked around with plates asking several tables, "Did you order this?," before plunking down the plate and stomping away. This place closes at 830pm on Sundays but at 750pm the staff were dropping off checks and cleaning up like there were ready to leave. Maybe it was an off night but tonight Sushi Rakkyo was all business and zero hospitality..not a great way to build regular clientele.

Still imo one of the best sushi places in town. My only issue is one of the waitresses isn't' super friendly at all and tends to only reply with one or two words. Where the younger waitress was super helpful and answered all of our questions regardless of what they were. Also she explained some of the rolls to us which made it even easier to decide. The other lady basically just left everything to us to decide and didn't even tell us what the specials were for the day.

This is our go to sushi place! $25 all you can eat is unbeatable for sushi! They have a ton of other things besides sushi. There's one lady there and she's so much fun! She remembers us after one trip in.

High quality fish served here. Their menu is very easy to read and find the right roll(s). The decor is modern and fun, makes for a great date or group outing restaurant. Menu also offers all you can eat sushi as well, the price of $25 is well worth it

Went here for lunch on a Sunday. They weren't offering all-you-can-eat lunch, only dinner, which was a bummer, since we were hoping for the lunch deal. They didn't have brown rice or low sodium soy sauce, which is common for a sushi restaurant to carry. Ambiance was okay, staff was friendly but rushed and busy. Ordered spicy tuna, Colorado, and Garden of the Gods rolls, all of which were pretty good. I'd return, but only if other sushi establishments were closed.
